State staggers to meet revenue target

revenueThe government has reported a shortfall in achieving the revenue targets set for its departments this financial year.

The revenue earnings of the State up to July stood at Rs. 9,689 crore, a good Rs. 1,000 crore away from the targeted Rs. 10,904 crore. As against the target of Rs. 47,250 crore set for this financial year, the State could achieve Rs. 8,211 crore at the end of the first quarter through land revenue, commercial taxes and the revenue generated by the Excise, Transport, Stamps & Registration, Mines & Geology, Forests departments.

During a meeting held to review the progress of the revenue-churning departments in Vijayawada on Friday, the officials informed Chief Minister N. Chndrababu Naidu that the government had realised Rs. 9,819 crore through commercial taxes so far against the target of Rs. 33,856 crore set for this fiscal year.

The officials also furnished details on the initiatives such as invoice tracking system and e-bills introduced to keep frauds at bay. Recording of transit passes has been in excess of 100 per cent and tax collection at check-posts has gone up by 250 per cent, the officials said. Mr. Naidu asked the officials to opt for Swiss Challenge method for setting up of integrated check-posts.
