Telangana completes 1 year today

telanganaOn June 2, 2014, India’s youngest state Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh. On its first anniversary, the Telangana government plans to celebrate the day, but Andhra Pradesh has announced a week long ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ to remind people of the challenges ahead in rebuilding the state post-bifurcation. With many controversies surrounding the government, the biggest challenge for both states is to fulfill the expectations of the people. Andhra Pradesh’s Communication Advisor Parakala Prabhakar said, “Rallies will be about how to rebuilt state and tell people the things that were not given.” Both N Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh and K Chandrasekhar Rao government in Telangana had come to power on the back of high expectations. In the past year, some key poll promises were met but agrarian distress and farmer suicides still remain a big concern. The opposition has a different story to tell and said that the government failed on every front. “They have failed in every respect in this one year. Education, employment, agriculture everything has collapsed,” Congress leader Shabbir Ali said.
