Twitter removes wallpapers from all profile pages, timelines

twitterMuch to the disappointment of users, Twitter has removed background images and customized wallpapers from all timelines and profile pages and replaced them with a blank white background.

Earlier, users were able to set a wallpaper of their choice for their profile page which also reflected elsewhere on Twitter’s website.

However, a company spokesperson has acknowledged the change and said, “Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly (Tweet pages, list pages and collections pages). You can find help centre content about customising your design and where it’s visible on Twitter’ supportpage,” The Telegraph reports.

However, if you change the background, it again disappears once you move out of the site and log in again.

The microblogging service hasn’t explained the reason for removing wallpapers, but this appears to be another change in the pipeline after CEO Dick Costolo’s exit. Twitter has been working on a new initiative-Project Lightning- under which it aims to launch a new service called ‘Moments’ that will curate tweets for live events.

The clean backgrounds could possibly become a stage for Twitter to deliver ads alongside the curated content.
