Over 500 year old gold-coated Quran recovered, gang of 10 trying to sell it for Rs 5 crore arrested

imagesThe Mysore district police have recovered a gold coated Quran which is almost 500 years old from a gang of antique sellers. This gang was trying to sell this rare copy of Qaran for over Rs 5 crore. They have arrested 10 persons in connection to this and charged them with various offences. All of them have been sent to judicial custody said Mysore district SP Abhinav Khare.

According to him, the gang leader Sanath had the Quran. The gang members used to show the picture of gold coated Quran to prospective buyers on their mobile phones. The police got wind of the Quran six months ago. After that they got the authenticity of this gold-coated Quaran verified by the historians and Islamic scholars.

The gang was caught red-handed on August 10 at Hosa Agrahara near KR Nagara. The police had sent a decoy to trap the sellers. According to some experts this copy of Quran belongs to Mogul emperor Akbar’s era

. It has 604 pages and all pages are gold coated.

Eminent historian and former vice chancellor Professor Sheikh Ali said that it is older than an ancient Quran which he had seen at a museum in Turkey. He opines that it was written between 1050 AD and 1605 AD.
