Telangana increases minimum pension to Rs 6,500

pensionThe Telangana government has increased the minimum monthly pension for its employees from Rs 3,350 per month to Rs 6,500. The government on Wednesday issued orders (GO Ms No.33) laying down the terms of reference of the Tenth Pay Revision Commission (PRC), according which, all the retired employees will get a minimum pension of Rs 6,500.

Earlier, the cut off years of service to get full pension had been fixed at 33 years. The employees retired with 33 years of service or more will be eligible for full pension, which is 50 per cent of the minimum basic pay at the time of retirement. A retired employee with less than 33 years of service would get 25 per cent of the minimum basic pay. In the Ninth PRC, it was relaxed by five years. However, in the Tenth PRC, the year limit has been eliminated and all the employees retired irrespective of their number of years in service are eligible for full pension. As per the rules, the existing last grade basic salary is Rs 13,100 (for class-IV employees) and 50 per cent of it is Rs 6,550, and the government decided to fix a round figure of Rs 6,500.
