According to source, the CM will announce the name officially with in days.

The CM finalised the name for AP capital which is located on the banks of river Krishna. The new modern capital can be linked to history dating back to at least 2000 years when the small town of Amaravati, which is about 32 km away from the core capital region, was a major Buddhist centre.

Since Amaravati is also associated with Telugu heritage dating back to the Satavahana kingdom, Naidu felt that it would be the most appropriate name for the AP capital. It was also felt that the name Amaravati will elevate the status of the new capital and will be embraced by all Telugus, whether they are in Andhra, Telangana, elsewhere in India, or abroad.
The CM selected the name Amaravati after discussing it with historians and vaastu experts. The TDP government has already acquired 33,000 acres of land from farmers of 26 villages to build the core capital on the banks of river Krishna. As per indications, the foundation stone for the capital would be laid on June 12 in a grand ceremony.
