Local courts should be established first than HC division:Lok Satta

hymaThe Lok Satta Party (LSP) on Thursday said that creation of local courts was much more urgent than going ahead with the division of the High Court.

Party national general secretary Hyma Pothineni said here, that ‘Grama Nyayalay’ legislation was passed in 2009 for setting up local courts to render speedy justice to people within few months. Though the Centre would bear expenditure for providing all basic amenities in the local courts, not even one local court was set up in either of the Telugu speaking States.

She said lakhs of cases were pending in the courts and people unable to bear the expenditure of litigation were not approaching courts. In this scenario rowdy sheeters were making the most of it by resorting to settlements. “Priority should be given to setting up local courts rather than division of High Court,” she said.

Courts could be set up for each mandal by hearing petitions pertaining to civil and criminal cases in local language, they could dispose of cases within six months.
