PM expresses concern over Haryana church vandalism, nun rape case; seeks immediate report

modi Expressing concern over incidents of violence against minorities in West Bengal and Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked for facts and action taken report into the incidents.

“PMO has asked for immediate report on facts & action taken regarding the incidents in Haryana & West Bengal. PM is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal,” the PMO tweeted.

An under-construction church in Kaimri village in Hisar was vandalised by a group of people and the cross at the church was replaced with an idol of Hanuman. The incident has triggered tensions in the area in Haryana. A CID probe has been ordered in the incident but no one has been arrested yet. The gang also decamped with Rs 12 lakh kept in the almirah after the crime.

In West Bengal, a 71-year-old nun was allegedly gangraped by robbers on Saturday, triggering protests and blockades of roads and railway tracks. With no arrests made even after two days of the gangrape demonstrators also blocked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s convoy for nearly an hour when she went to meet the victim.

However, Banerjee claimed that the protest was a conspiracy hatched by CPI-M and BJP to stop police from taking action against the real culprits. “No matter where the culprits are, strongest action will be taken against them. We are fully committed to that (action against the culprits),” she added.

Ten people have been detained in connection with the incident. Nadia Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh said that extensive searches were being conducted across the district.
