TN gvt. announces Rs 3 lakh compensation for 20 people killed in Chittoor encounter

red sadal wood smuggigChennai: Tamil Nadu government has announced Rs 3 lakh compensation for families of 20 people killed in Chittoor encounter.

Locals staged protest in Chittoor and Chennai over the killings of twenty wood smugglers. Several political parties in Tamil Nadu including the DMK, MDMK and the PMK condemned the encounter and said that the illegal woodcutters were actually daily wage workers employed by red sanders smugglers.

Protesters in Tamil Nadu have alleged human rights violations in the encounter.

Nearly 100 activists gathered on Tuesday demanding that action be taken against the officers who were involved in the encounter. They are demanding a judicial probe into the killings headed by a Supreme Court judge. The party also demanded that adequate compensation be given to families of the victims.

The business establishments owned by Andhra people were also targeted at some places in Chennai. The police have detained several protesters.

Most of the victims come from different parts of Tamil Nadu including Tiruvanamalai, Vellore and Salem.
